Last week we introduced Crawford Miller, our first speaker for What We F*cked Up.

Today, the person who gets to ask him the hard part.

Bill Koleszar is moderating on Tuesday, September 8.

Techs and the City BHM — What We F*cked Up. Meet your moderator: Bill Koleszar, The CMO Institute. September 8, 2026, 5:30 PM, WorkPlay, 500 23rd St South.

Bill has been a chief marketing officer three times — twice at American Family Care, with National Spine & Pain Centers in between. He is the editor and publisher of The Chief Marketing Officer Journal. He is a senior fellow at The CMO Institute, and he teaches marketing at Alabama's Culverhouse College of Business.

Here's the part that made him the right person for this particular night.

A few weeks ago Bill posted that he had gone back to school — not to teach, but to sit in the seats. He'd spent a career being the most senior marketer in the room, took the faculty job, and then decided he did not yet know how to teach well enough. So he went to Harvard and learned it as a beginner.

Most people with that résumé would have just started lecturing.

That instinct — that there is always something you haven't got right yet — is the entire premise of this event. It is also what makes a moderator worth having. Anyone can nod along to a failure story. Bill will ask the question underneath it.
